Often when I describe my line of work I am met with incredulous faces. Some of my former coworkers ask me when I will be ready to come back to work. Other people laugh and ask me what I really do. Some people cannot understand what it is that I do for the nine months out of the year that camp is not happening. My grandmother asks me when I will be a doctor or a lawyer. While I would love to go into detail to explain my job, I have to say that it is neither glamorous nor enviable, as you can see from the pictures below.

Couldn't be happier.
Some days are tougher than others. For example, last week I got a call from the boat shop telling me that our new boat was ready. I managed to drag myself to the lake to greet the new vessel and take it for its inaugural cruise.

Getting a feeling for the controls, taking in the sun.
As you can see, driving the boat is just a terrible task. I hated every second of it and couldn’t wait to get back to shore.

Just cruisin'
Other days, while I hate doing it, I close my computer, put away the rakes and brooms, and reluctantly go out into the sun.

Getting my rappel on.
I mean, who else would take the time to test out our rock wall for the season? Trust me, the thought of the pine needles piling up for me to rake away festered in my mind the entire time I was climbing.

Fun!
So rest assured all you campers, former campers, counselors, parents, and friends, I am working hard and my job is indeed difficult…you really wouldn’t want it.
